The Fifth Symposium on ICTs and the Environment & Climate Change(2-3 November 2010 – Smart Village -– Cairo)


The Fifth Symposium on ICTs and the Environment & Climate Change was held in Cairo during 2-3 November 2010 and was hosted and co- organized by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) Egypt, the Ministry of state for Environmental Affairs (MSEA) Egypt and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
The main purpose of the symposium was to raise awareness of the opportunities availed by ICTs in using it to monitor climate change and to mitigate and address its effects.
In this context, it focused on the issue of ICTs, the environment and climate change in Africa and the needs of developing countries. Topics discussed included adaptation to climate change, e-waste, cost-effective ICT technologies, methodology of environmental impact assessment of ICT and financing of climate change solutions. The symposium issued the “Cairo Roadmap”; a set of recommendations for action in relation to ICTs, the Environment and Climate Change.
