The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) awarded Egypt the 2014 prize in the field of information society



The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) awarded Egypt the 2014 prize in the field of information society. The award ceremony took place during the 12th World Telecommunications Indicators Symposium  (WTIS) hosted by the city of Tbilisi in Georgia during the last week of November 2014.
On behalf of the Engineer / Atef Helmy, the Minister of Communications and Technology,  Dr. Nagwa El Shenawy  Undersecretary of Information and Strategic Planning represented Egypt in the Symposium. During the closing session, ITU's Telecommunication Development Bureau Director Dr. Brahima Sanou granted Dr. Nagwa El Shenawy ITU 2014 Award, in recognition of  Egypt's efforts in measuring ICT indicators, its active participation in the ITU specialized ICT statistics meetings and conferences  and especially the level of professionalism shown by the ministry's information Center team during  Egypt’s host of the Symposium back in 2009.
It is worth noting that Mr. Houlin Zhao Deputy Secretary-General of ITU, the Georgian Prime Minister and the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia participated in the Symposium opening ceremony, this is in addition to ICT indicators experts and specialists from 75 countries worldwide, representatives from international organizations and major international companies, and Ministers of Communications and leaders from the ICT sector in each of the following countries: Jordan, Zambia, Mozambique, South Africa, Georgia, Egypt, Palestine, Japan, South Korea, China and Denmark.
