Egypt is poised to emerge as a major player in the information economy, according to UNCTAD’s first edition ever of Information Communications and Technology (ICT) Policy Review of the country.

 

For the first time, 2011 has witnessed the inclusion of Egypt in the OECD Statistical profile . By being added to this profile, Egypt has joined a large number of developed and developing countries, featuring a few number of Egypt's ICT usage indicators. This comes in line with MCIT publishing its third statistical profile "The Future of the Internet Economy in Egypt - 2011", which has been announced during the OECD "Working Party for Indicators of Information Society WPIIS" meeting held in Paris, June 2011.

Professor Soumitra Dutto – the expert from the INSEAD School of business - had paid a visit to Cairo on January 23rd to discuss the updates of the ICT innovation and entrepreneurship strategy that is conducted by the Ministry and the Technological Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre prepared in cooperation with the expert team from the INSEAD. During his visit, the professor had a meeting with His Excellency the Minister of Communications and information Technology Dr. Tarek Kamel where they discussed the final revision of the strategy document in addition to the main action to be taken within its announcement.

In the context of “Measuring Foreign Direct Investments in Egypt's ICT sector” project, the multinational companies working in the ICT sector in Egypt were invited on Monday the 20th of December 2010 to meet the international expert Mr. Geoffrey Robertson who is responsible for this project.

Dr. Nagwa El-Shenawy, manager of MCIT's Information Center has participated in the conference organized by The International Business Information Management Association (IBIMA) in order to present a paper prepared by the Economic Analysis department to highlight the Egyptian experience in its “ICT Indicators Initiative”,
